I haven't studied this poem, but I don't see it as a love poem from a man to a woman. It seems to me more like he is taken with awe at the touch of a baby. At the same time, "somewhere i have never travelled…" seems to suggest death.

Maybe it is my mood, but I can find in this an understanding of how close to death we walk as living beings. Almost flirting with death. The rose opens. The rose closes.

"or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
    the snow carefully everywhere descending;"

It doesn't feel like a love poem, although it might be. If your teacher is asking you to view it as such, then you should completely ignore this answer. He/she knows MUCH more about it than I do. If you are asked to look at the poem and gather your own opinion, I would suggest looking at the poem as a metaphor about the fragility of life.
